The Unique Environment Associated with Online Classes
5 Aug
If you ever get the chance to attend online classes, you will be completely bowled over by the differences between them and the conventional learning environment. To begin with there is a software platform which is used as the primary communication tool. That means that you will either be texting your contributions or speaking via video link. This enhances your ability to keep records of things that you have said and done. There is no impetus to retain notes because you simply have to copy and paste the data that has been discussed.
- Poor internet connections: Students in the European Union and North America will probably have very rare experiences of a poor internet connection. They will also not be subject to power cuts. Developing nations such as Kenya are always prone to these disruptions. If you find that there is going to be a problem try to invest in a laptop or iPad for purposes of ensuring that you can still work with limited power sources. Try to get broadband with the highest specification possible. If there is an optical digital line then you should join it rather than the ad hoc connections which are typical of poorer nations.
- FaceBook and Twitter: Once you are online the twin devils of social media and news will try to distract you from your online classes. Everything has to be put into compartments for easier access. For example you may have one hour online. Take thirty minutes to research and twenty to write down or copy what you have found. The five minutes can be used to respond to important messages while the rest are for leisure surfing. If you repeat this across the day you will find that it is much easier to complete the course. Logging on without a planning is the first step in failing to reach your targets.
- Working as a group: Some students are not interested in groups as part of their online classes. That is a pity because this is one of the best ways of learning. You should try to widen your circle as possible. Google + is a new communication tool that you might want to include in your contact listings. Students that come from far off countries like China have surprisingly accurate insights into the questions that you will be learning. Certainly the course in international business will require that you are aware of the way that other nations work in a commercial environment.
Setting goals is not a bad thing as long as they are reasonable. Anecdotal evidence suggests that online classes are not as competitive as the traditional formats. You are likely to encounter a cyber bully or two but switching them off has never been easier. In fact many of the students who study in this way are fairly mature. They know what they want and are unlikely to be involved in juvenile antics. You can make this the best learning experience for you and might be able to get a job in the process.
